Thanks to all who came out on Sunday for my event at the Lantern Theatre.  It all took some doing – working with Rikki to develop an understanding between the poems and the music, the voice and the guitar, organising a set which worked on lots of levels – narrative, mood, drama, helping my daughter Lydia prepare her part, getting hold of the scratchy recordings and a scratchy suit.  And it felt important: in choosing the venue, and the presentation, I felt I was raising expectations and a sense of responsibility, not only to the work, but to its subject – the victims of the Spanish Civil War and their descendants, the Moors and their descendants, Lorca and his art.

So thank you for coming – and for your attentiveness and appreciation.  It was, for me, a happy night.

Just wanted to send a quick note saying a) sorry for not making it to the launch: it sounds like it was a great evening and b) congratulations on the new book: if it’s as much of a pleasure as neurosurgery (you know what I mean!), I’ll very much look forward to reading it…

Thanks Oli. I’m down for the Midsummer festival at Bank Street in June, so hope to see you there. The book does drill down into the same seams as Neurosurgery…
